This game is do or die for Portugal, a loss will see them knocked out of the Beer tournament. Denmark won their first game and know that a win will see them through to the knockout round. It’s the same situation as the real tournament, this is going to be a great game both on the field and in the bar. One of the world’s biggest beer brands Carlsberg will represent the Danes, while Portugal will be represented by Cristal Pilsner a beer that I’ve only recently discovered.
Carlsberg DENMARK German Pilsner 5.0% |
Carlsberg is arguably Denmark’s best known product. It’s hugely popular worldwide and with good reason! This is very solid easy drinking lager, it’s easy to drink and nice and hoppy. It’s rare to find someone who doesn’t like Carlsberg, and this one was no exception.
It took me so long to find a Portuguese beer for my European Beer Challenge, but now I can’t stop finding new ones. Cristal Pilsner is a real nice beer, it’s in the style of a Czech Pilsner. It’s also a really nice beer, the appearance is fantastic and the drinkability is awesome. I’ll be buying more of this! |
Cristal Pilsner PORTUGAL American Ad. Lager 4.7% |
It’s hard to say that Portugal produced a better beer than Carlsber, but they actually have on this occassion. Unfortunately for Portugal it wasn’t enough to get them over the line in the end. Cristal is a really nice drinking beer, and I would say it’s on the upper end of the scale. It has lovely bitterness and just had that slight edge on Carlsberg tonight. A puts Denmark in a good position to go through, while it leaves Portugal on the brink of elimination with the Dutch to play the Germans tonight.
